— A woman was charged with DUI after she crashed into a Manatee County Sheriff's deputy's patrol vehicle in a parking lot and tried to leave the scene, authorities said.

Jennifer Hartzell, 28, was backing up to leave a parking lot at 706 39th Street West around 8:45 p.m. when she struck the driver's side rear bumper of a deputy's parked SUV, according to a sheriff's report. The deputy was conducting traffic duty for the DeSoto Grand Parade with his unmarked car at the time of the crash.

Hartzell then began to pull away and had to be stopped by the deputy, the report states. She was evaluated by a traffic unit and placed under arrest for DUI.

Neither Hartzell nor the deputy was injured and the vehicles sustained only "very minor scuff marks," the report states.
