— A Sarasota man was seriously injured in a traffic crash that temporarily shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 75 on Saturday.

The crash happened around 3:48 p.m. on I-75 about a half mile north of Linger Lodge Road and south of State Road 70, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The driver, 39-year-old James J. Staubach, was headed southbound in his 2002 Ford Explorer when his right rear tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, the report states.

The SUV rotated and overturned, eventually coming to rest in the median.

Staubach was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. A 10-year-old passenger was uninjured, according to the report.

Southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for a short period of time following the crash before reopening.
