Couple to celebrate 40th anniversary with first cruise

April 25, 2014

Marianne and John Moyer are joyously celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary Monday.

So how is this Manatee County couple going to celebrate?

"John and I have been cruise virgins for too long," said Marianne. "Our friends finally convinced us that we need to try something new, so we have booked our first cruise and will be sailing from Miami, to and through the Panama Canal to celebrate its 100th anniversary, and our 40th.

"I'm shopping for a 'cruise wardrobe' and he'll probably buy a new 'Vin' shirt or two as well. We can't wait," she said.

• Ex-Manatee Hurricane Cord Sandberg was rated the No. 19 prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies' minor league system by the Philadelphia Inquirer. A third-round selection in the 2013 draft, he hit .207 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 169 at-bats in the Gulf Coast League last summer. Sandberg, who bats and throws lefthanded, is a little behind many young players because he spent so much time playing football, the report said. A state cham

pionship quarterback for the Canes, he chose the Phillies over a chance to play football at Mississippi State. The team believes Sandberg will develop, but it will take time because this is the first time he's playing baseball year-round.
