Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres placed third baseman Chase Headley on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain Friday.

Headley left Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals in the second inning with the injury that caused him to miss a majority of spring training. He's hitting just .186 with two homers and seven RBI in 20 games this season.

The Padres selected the contract of pitcher Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso and optioned infielder/outfielder Tommy Medica to El Paso.

In addition, San Diego selected the contract of infielder Jace Peterson from Double-A San Antonio, transferred pitcher Josh Johnson from the 15-day to the 60-day DL and designated utility man Alex Castellanos for assignment.
