Bradenton woman takes shoes off to steal a pair and more from Walmart

PALMETTO -- A Bradenton woman was arrested and charged with petty/grand theft Wednesday morning after she tried to shoplift items from a Walmart Supercenter, according to the Palmetto Police Department.

Destiny Jean Elder, 19, was observed removing a tag from merchandise by Walmart asset protection at the retail store, located on 10th Street East.

"The defendant then entered the shoe department, where she removed her shoes and put new shoes on," a probable cause affidavit states. "She then selected a pair of sunglasses and placed them on her head after removing the tag."

According to the Palmetto Police Department, Elder then entered the store's jewelry department, where she selected pieces of jewelry and concealed them in a purse. The 19-year-old then walked out of the store, passing all points of payment, according to the affidavit.

All the merchandise, which totaled out to $88.11, was recovered and returned to Walmart.

Elder was booked into jail and held on $120 bond.
