5 things to watch Thursday at the Florida Legislature

Posted by MARC R. MASFERRER on April 24, 2014

The House and Senate have full agendas on Thursday, the 52nd day of the legislative session. Here's what to watch:

-- The Senate will vote on the so-called Pop-tart bill (SB 7029). The NRA-supported measure would protect children who play with simulated weapons in school from facing suspension or expulsion.

-- The upper chamber will also consider a controversial abortion bill by Sen. Anitere Flores (SB 918) that would restrict abortions after a fetus is determined "viable." A vote on the proposal is expected Friday.

-- Up in the House: HB 7095, which would create a process for professional sports franchises to compete for sales tax rebates for construction and renovation projects.

-- The lower chamber will also take up HB 7113, an omnibus bill that addresses trauma centers, nurse practitioners and virtual healthcare services.

-- Any outstanding budget issues will be heard by the full Appropriations conference committee beginning Wednesday.
