John Legend performs at Van Wezel in Sarasota

The acclaimed and popular R&B artist plays sold-out Van Wezel show

April 24, 2014

John Legend

There aren't too many performers who can garner both critical acclaim and overwhelming commercial success.

John Legend has done that. From his beginnings as a collaborator with high-profile artists as Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, singer/keyboardist Legend has gone on to phenomenal success as a solo performer and R&B songwriter

It's been just eight years since Legend won the Best New Artist Grammy Award, one of two he won in 2006. Since then he's earned seven more Grammys. He's been nominated 13 times that he didn't win. The nominations are mostly in R&B categories, but some pop and rap nominations and awards have come his way as well.

He's also sold millions of albums, received gold records, and appeared on TV shows from "Sesame Street" to "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

If you want to experience the man in concert you have a chance coming up this weekend. He'll be at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota on Sunday.

Actually, you may have missed your chance, if you didn't buy tickets yet, or if you don't know someone who has tickets and owes you a big favor. The show's been sold out for weeks.

Details: 7 p.m. April 27, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: Sold out. Information: 941-953-3368,
