Bridges to Careers offers open house

BRADENTON -- Bridges to Careers, a career readiness program managed by Suncoast Community Capital, will host two free open houses April 24 and April 29 to highlight its free four week training course.

The course includes: classes from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in succeeding on the job and Microsoft computer skills. Bridges also offers personal financial management classes, how to dress for success, interview preparation and resume help. Students take the Florida Ready to Work credential and work with mentors and a career coach who connect them with community resources and local employer partners.

Victoria's Secret bringing panties to Mall at UTC

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Sexy lingerie store Victoria's Secret will be coming to the Mall at University Town Center.

The Columbus, Ohio, company filed a building permit application Wednesday with Sarasota County.

The lingerie company is owned by Lbrands, which manages Bath and Body Works, Pink, La Senza and Henri Bendel.

The 880,000-square-foot, two-level mall is expected to open Oct. 16 on the corner of University Parkway and Cattlemen Road, bringing stores such as Apple, Macy's, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Brooks Brothers, Lululemon, Cheesecake Factory and more.

When open, the Taubman Centers-operated mall will only be the third shopping mall to open in the United States since 2006.

Mercedes launches contest for small business owners

Fast Company and Mercedes-Benz have partnered on a contest offering a small business or start-up operation a chance to win a Mercedes van.

As part of the "Drive Your Business Forward Contest," any small business -- including startups, nonprofit organizations, and creative companies -- can enter by submitting a 60-second video about their company and how they would use and customize a Sprinter van to drive their business forward. Up to 10 selected entrants will also compete for a $10,000 Readers' Choice Prize, awarded to the video with the most votes on
