Bradenton man accused of stealing wallets from Sarasota, Manatee gym lockers

A Bradenton man has been charged in connection with multiple locker room thefts at two Crunch Fitness locations, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports.

Jared Mustrat, 27, was arrested Tuesday after the Sarasota sheriff issued a bulletin identifying him as a suspect in the April 7 theft of a man's wallet from a Bee Ridge Road gym in Sarasota. The victim's debit and credit cards were used at several locations to purchase more than $1,800 in gift cards, according to a sheriff's office news release.

A Manatee County detective who saw the bulletin recognized Mustrat as a suspect in a similar crime at a Manatee Crunch Fitness location, the release states. In that case, Mustrat allegedly signed up as a guest, stole a person's wallet out of a locker and used a credit card to purchase gift cards at a CVS and a Publix, according to a probable cause affidavit.

On Monday, two more locker thefts were reported at the Bee Ridge Road gym, according to the sheriff's office. One victim had credit cards and $300 in cash stolen, and another victim found nearly $1,500 in fraudulent charges on his online credit card statement.

Deputies located Mustrat on Tuesday and booked him into Manatee County jail, where he was being held on .

In Sarasota, Mustrat faces charges of scheming to defraud, grand theft and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to the Sarasota sheriff's office.

In Manatee, he is charged with petty theft, two counts of fraudulent use or possession of ID and three counts of giving a false ID to secondhand dealers, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.

Mustrat is being held on bonds totaling $7,620.
