Man shot during robbery try in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A man was shot in the hand by a gunman who tried to rob him late Monday in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 9:15 p.m., the victim gave a friend a ride home to the 3200 block of 51st Avenue Drive West. When he stopped in the driveway, a man got out of a vehicle next to him, brandished a gun and demanded money, according to a news release.

The gunman then began shooting, and the victim fled the scene, according to the report.

The victim was located a short time later in the front yard of his home with a gunshot wound to the hand. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect was not located.
