MANATEE -- Manatee County Area Transit will offer service free of charge on Friday, April 25. According to a press release issued Monday by Nicholas Azzara with the Manatee County government, MCAT will offer free rides throughout Try Transit Day from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The promotion is part of the Florida Department of Transportation's awareness campaign to get commuters to consider alternative modes of transportation, the release states. In addition, the promotion emphasized a desire for commuters to consider different modes of transportation for work commutes typically involving one vehicle transporting one person.

"Try Transit Day has become one of MCAT's most popular promotions of the year," said MCAT Manager Bill Steele in a written statement. "MCAT benefits the environment and mitigates traffic in our county. Public transit offers much more than saving you the cost of increasing fuel prices."

MCAT serves Bradenton, Ellenton, Palmetto and the gulf beach communities. For more information on MCAT routes and schedules, visit www.mymanatee.org/mcat or call 941-747-8621.
