St. Petersburg man struck, killed while walking on Interstate 75 in Sarasota

SARASOTA — A St. Petersburg man was struck and killed while walking on Interstate 75 late Saturday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Tyron Rubio, 33, was standing in the right southbound lane in southern Sarasota County about 10:43 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a 2009 Honda CRV driven by a 56-year-old Punta Gorda woman, according to the report.

Officials said the driver had no advance warning and the front of the vehicle struck Rubio.

Rubio was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the report.
