UNIVERSITY PARK -- Hip casual clothing store Express will be bringing its threads to the Mall at University Town Center.

The clothier, based in Columbus, Ohio, and New York City, was founded in 1980 as a division The Limited called Limited Express. The 2001, Limited combined its Structure line into Express to create a men's and women's store.

Express was sold to Golden Gate Capital in 2007, which also owns women's clothing store J.Jill, which is also coming to the mall.

The store filed for a building permit application Friday, according to Sarasota County records.

Today, Express has more than 550 stores across the United States, including at both Westfield Southgate and Westfield Sarasota Square malls in Sarasota.

The 880,000-square-foot, two-level mall is expected to open Oct. 16 on the corner of University Parkway and Cattlemen Road, bringing stores such as Apple, Macy's, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Brooks Brothers, Lululemon and more.

When open, the Taubman Centers-operated mall will only be the third shopping mall to open in the U.S. since 2006.
