LAKEWOOD RANCH -- No sooner than he was sworn in followed by a brief round of congratulations, Jerry Twiggs, former president of the Watercrest Condo Association in Lakewood Ranch, began work immediately Thursday as treasurer for Community Development District 2.
Twiggs, 62, replaced Kathleen Grant following her sudden resignation from the Seat 5 position in March. He will be preparing the district budget for the 2015 fiscal year.
"They handed me a three-ring binder with my name on it and a budget planning book for 2015, so I'm happy to be actively participating and contributing to the entire community now," said Twiggs, who has also informed his full-time employer, Peace River Electric Cooperative, that he is retiring next year.
Twiggs has indicated he will seek election to a four-year term when his interim stint ends in November.
He's now gathering maps and familiarizing himself with Manatee County and CCD 2-owned roads because of traffic concerns expressed by the community due to growth and the soon-to-open Mall at University Town Center nearby.
In other news, Jane Bruyer, secretary of Community Development District 6, has been appointed to the Inter-District Authority Board replacing Richard Williams, who has taken over as CDD 6 chairman from Bob Burstein.
Burstein will assume the role of assistant secretary and IDA alternate until his term ends in November, James Hill will serve as vice chairman, and Douglas Ferry will remain as treasurer until his term ends in November.
