Bail in Sarasota can now be paid with credit, debit cards

Herald Staff ReportApril 16, 2014

SARASOTA -- Those wishing to bail someone out of the Sarasota County jail can now use their credit or debit cards.

On Wednesday the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office announced that bail payments of up to $750 could be made through GovPayNet.

GovPayNet accepts major credit, debit and prepaid debit cards, according to the news release. Bail can be paid 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in person, online or by phone.

Consumers are charged a service fee.

Manatee County jail does not offer this convenience. Cash, cashier's checks and money orders are the only acceptable methods of payment, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
