LAKEWOOD RANCH -- On Tuesday night, the Lakewood Ranch softball team was clicking on all cylinders.

The Mustangs beat Sarasota 9-1 in a Class 7A-District 10 semifinal, advancing to face rival Braden River on Thursday night for the championship.

"We played great from start to finish," Mustangs head coach Tony Cummins said.

Sophomore Maddi Biggs got it going offensively for Lakewood Ranch (19-7) when she hit a line drive to right-center field, giving her squad a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Biggs was brought home on a double also hit to right-center, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Lakewood Ranch wouldn't look back.

Sarasota's head coach Kelly Risley didn't like what she was seeing from her starter Carissa Lynch, pulling her after just 1 1/3 innings.

"We just tried to get quality hits off of Lynch. She's a heck of a player, but we prepared for her," Cummins said.

The move didn't stop the offensive onslaught. Senior Korrin Cline beat a throw to home plate, scoring the Mustangs' third run of the night.

Freshman Logan Newton was lights out for Lakewood Ranch. She retired eight straight batters at one point, shutting down the Sailors (19-5) and taking away any hope they had of keeping the game close.

"The game is so much fun when you have it going great both ways. We hit well and pitched just as good," Cummins added.

If the Mustangs win Thursday, it will be their second district title in three years.
