Faces in business: Robert L. Green

April 16, 2014

Title: President/Chief Investment Officer

Company: BG Financial Advisors LLC

What was the best business advice you ever received?

To be long-term selfish versus short-term greedy.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be?

Commercial real estate. It is similar to what I do now and I am familiar with it but like the fact you can do a "deal." That's a lot easier than being an investment adviser. The long-term issues of the investment officer is a tremendous responsibility. I am obligated to do what's best for the client 100 percent of the time.

What's the biggest risk you have taken in your career?

I have taken a lot of risks. But having purchased a home in California, having a family and a new baby, and being an executive with a big financial services company and going stone cold on my own, with no support, and no salary, that was a huge risk. But I had faith in my abilities and have been strictly on my own and it worked.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you start?

I'd stay in Bradenton and I would not want to be anywhere else right now.
