Manatee deputy struck by car during training exercise

MANATEE -- A deputy was injured Tuesday morning while instructing another deputy during a driving training exercise, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The driver was in the middle of evasive manuever exercise in the 300 block of 301 Blvd West in Bradenton and made a turn into another lane too early, according to a news release.

The driving instructor, also a deputy, was reportedly standing just off the to the side of the training course and was hit with the front of the car. The car was traveling about 25 to 30 mph.

The instructor was taken to Blake Medical Center where he was treated in the emergency room for his injuries and later released.
