Strong winds hitting Sunshine Skyway bridge as rain moves into region

Posted by MARC R. MASFERRER on April 15, 2014

Florida Highway Patrol has issued a travel advisory for motorists on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge as a line of thunderstorms moves into the region.

The FHP website reports there are heavy winds on the bridge, but that it remains open.

A cold front is expected to bring with it showers and thunderstorms to the Tampa Bay region -- including Manatee County -- on Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake wind advisory for the region, in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Weather Service also is warning about possible rip currents off local beaches. That advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Weather Service.
