Juco baseball: SCF wins at Hillsborough
TAMPA -- The visiting State College of Florida Manatees won a Suncoast Conference game 8-5 behind the strong pitching of Dustin Hogy, who went eight innings against Hillsborough Community College in Tampa. Hogy recorded eight strikeouts while walking two and giving up four runs and 10 hits. The SCF (25-16, 11-11) hitting attack was led by Cory Reid (3-for-5, home run, three RBIs), Alex Pinero (two-run homer) and Tyler Dauphinee (3-for-4, two RBIs).
Prep girls lacrosse: Saint Stephen's downs SMA
BRADENTON -- The Saint Stephen's Falcons rallied in the second half to beat the Sarasota Miltary Academy Eagles 10-5 in a district semifinal match.
Leading the offensive attack were Kendall Miller (four goals), Emily Hiebner (three goals), Emma Vigne (goal, assist), Marry Moore (goal) and Baylee Barker (goal). Kelsey Leskines had 15 saves in goal for the Falcons (5-3).
Prep baseball: Bayshore, Braden River earn victories
BRADENTON -- Bayshore's Daniel Schroeder pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing four hits, a walk and striking out seven to earn a 3-2 victory for the Bruins over the visiting Bradenton Christian Panthers. Julian Valdivia went 2-for-2 with two walks and two steals, and Jared Paparella added a double for the Bruins (11-12).
ELSEWHERE -- The Braden River Panthers beat the visiting Sarasota Christian Blazers 8-4. Brock Younce threw six innings of four-hit ball, allowing three runs and fanning four for the win. Brian Billingham (2-for-4, run) and Tyler Dyson (1-for-3, two RBIs) led the offensive attack for the Panthers (11-11).
