Reds shut down Latos with elbow issue

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mat Latos will not throw for the next 10-to-14 days after an MRI taken Saturday revealed a mass flexor strain in his right elbow.

Latos was scratched from a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday after complaining of soreness in his elbow. The right-hander began the season on the disabled list following surgery in March to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee.

The 26-year-old previously had a procedure to remove bone chips in the same elbow back in December. The Reds said that Latos' current ailment will not require surgery and that his ulnar collateral ligament is not damaged.

Latos went 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA in 32 starts for Cincinnati last year and has posted a 28-11 record in his two seasons with the Reds.
