Weston Davis went the distance on the mound, allowing three unearned runs and six hits, as the Manatee baseball team came up with a 5-3 victory over visiting Lakewood Ranch on Friday at G.T. Bray park.

Davis struck out eight and gave up six hits. He did not walk a batter.

Orlando Ruiz had two hits and two RBIs for Manatee (11-11), and Max Moneuse collected two hits.

Justin Greenaway paced the Mustangs with two hits.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 4, SARASOTA CRISTIAN 3 (8) -- Nick Rodhouse threw all eight innings, and the Falcons (10-12) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth and won on a walk-off balk.

Rodhouse permitted three unearned runs and six hits while striking out five. Zack Kanter led the offense with two hits.

Track and field

CLASS 2A-DISTRICT 11 -- Southeast's Denqualyn Joyner won both throwing events Thursday to lead the Seminoles at Booker.

Joyner claimed first place in the discus with a toss of 117 feet, 3 inches. He took the shot put at 44-7.

Kaddarius Carley and Dominic MacRae also won district titles for Southeast. Carley claimed the 100-meter dash in 10.99 seconds, and MacRae won the 1,600 run in 4:53.35.

The Southeast boys finished fifth with 72 points. St. Petersburg Lakewood won the team event with 172.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Class 2A-Region 3 meet Wednesday at Tampa Berkeley Prep.

Daisha Kelly led the Southeast girls by winning the 300 hurdles in 51.19 seconds and running on the district championship 400 relay team with Marline Valcin, Mirlene Valcin and Jasmine Williams. That team finished in 51.19 seconds.

Johnelle Clark won the shot put with a put of 32-4.25.

The Southeast girls came in fourth with 101 points.

Boys weightlifting

CLASS 2A-DISTRICT 7 -- Manatee lifters Darian Oliver and Dylan Beauchamp and Braden River's Kevin Parra each won district titles and earned berths in the state meet during a qualifying meet Thursday at Punta Gorda Charlotte.

Oliver, who lifts in the 119-pound weight class, bench-pressed 215 pounds and recorded a 175-pound lift in the clean and jerk for a 390 total. Beauchamp, a heavyweight, lifted 375 and 305 for a 680 total. Parra won the 139-pound division with a 420 total (215-205).

The champions of each weight class advance to the state meet April 25-26 at Kissimmee Civic Center. Lifters who finished second or third are placed into a pool of 18 lifters with the top nine advancing to state.

Among the area's second- and third-place finishers were Braden River's Austin Fox (second, 139-pound class, 415 total), Lakewood Ranch's James Jeffcoat (second, 154, 460), Manatee's Joseph Andruzzi (second, 169, 500) and Braden River's Nicholas Mainardi (third, 154, 410).

Girls lacrosse

FORT MYERS CANTERBURY 18, SAINT STEPHEN'S 10 -- Emily Hiebner led the host Falcons (4-4) with three goals in a losing effort in the regular-season finale.

Merry Moore and Krysten Weaver each added two goals for Saint Stephen's. Weaver added an assist. Kendall Miller, Grace Barnes and Baylee Barker each had a goal, and Kelsey Leskinen made 13 saves.
