Diabetes walk comes to LWRMain Street
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes will be held Saturday on Lakewood Ranch Main Street.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the walk to follow at 9:30.
There is no entry fee, but donations are accepted. Walkers who raise $100 or more will get a free T-shirt.

Volunteer cleanups to be held Saturday in Manatee
MANATEE --Keep Manatee Beautiful is holding several volunteer cleanups around the county from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Volunteers can check in at 9 a.m. at the following sites:
Anna Maria City Hall, 10005 Gulf Drive
Holmes Beach at Kingfish Boat Ramp on Manatee Avenue West
F .I.S.H. Preserve, 11601 Cortez Road
Terra Ceia on U.S. 19 at the northwest corner of the bridge, by Crab Trap I
Palmetto City Hall, 518 8th Ave. W
Wares Creek at Bradenton Woman's Club, 1705 Manatee Ave. W
Jiggs Landing at the intersection of Braden River Road off State Road 70 and Linger Lodge Road (bring kayak, canoe or power boat)
Volunteers should bring their own gloves, sunscreen and cooler and wear closed-toe shoes. Trash bags and drinks will be provided.

Public meeting on Cortez Bridge work set for April 22
MANATEE -- The Florida Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting about the Cortez Bridge Repair project.
The meeting is slated for 5-7 p.m. April 22 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 6101 Cortez Road W., Bradenton, FDOT officials said.
Those who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or might need free translation services should contact Jamie Schley at 863-519-2573, preferably at least seven days before the meeting.

Signups begin May 5 for adult softball league
MANATEE --Registration for Manatee County's Summer Adult Softball League will be held May 5-11 at the G.T. Bray Recreation Center, 5502 33rd Ave. Dr. W.
The league, operated by the Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department, is for men and women ages 18 and older. Play begins May 27.
