Two Bruins win twice at district

Bayshore's Canaan Meester-Kitterman and Joy Norman each won a pair of events as the Bruins placed fifth as a team in the boys and girls competition at the Class 2A-District 10 meet at Tampa Berkeley Prep.

Meester-Kitterman won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 39 seconds, and the 3,200 run in 10 minutes.

Norman claimed the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches, and the long jump at 15-7.

The top four individuals and relay teams advance to next week's region meet at Berkeley Prep.

CLASS 1A-DISTRICT 10 -- The Saint Stephen's girls claimed three district championships and placed fourth as a team at Out-of-Door Academy.

Lauren Csubak won the 800 run in 2:24.4, and Jane Lindsay claimed the 400 dash in 1:04.9. Csubak, Jane Lindsay, Paige Lindsay and Janae Murrell took the 1,600 relay in 4:18.3.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to next week's Region 3 meet at Clearwater Calvary Christian.

Saint Stephen's Cassandra Woodruff didn't advance, but she set the school record in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.

The Falcons' boys 400 relay team of Jorge Zavala, Bobby Harrison, Jordon Murrell and Fred Billy finished third and set a school record at 46.12 seconds.

Cardinal Mooney's Grace Casagrande and Cal Davidson Turner each took home a pair of first-place ribbons.

Casagrande and Turner each won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Casagrande's times were 5:11 and 11:19, and Turner's were 4:33 and 10:11.

The host Thunder crowned a champion in Tre Gregory, who won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, six inches.

Baseball

IMG ACADEMY 6, MANATEE 4 -- Matt Mackey led the visiting Hurricanes (10-11) with two hits in a losing effort.

Starting pitcher Austin Mumford struck out seven and allowed three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work for Manatee.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 13, SOUTHEAST 3 -- David Hinkel and Tyler Lyke each went 4-for-5 to lead the visiting Panthers (15-7) over the Seminoles.

Luke Darnell added two hits for BCS, and Aaron Downard got the win on the mound by allowing three earned runs and three hits over four innings.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 5, TARPON SPRINGS EAST LAKE 2 -- Tyler Mattes didn't allow an earned run over six innings for the host Mustangs.

Mattes allowed three hits and struck out six for Lakewood Ranch (9-10).

Cameron Pearcey, Brendan Lewellen, Alex Gutowski and Shane Zipperer each drove in a run, and Matt Roberts had two hits for Ranch.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 12, SAINT STEPHEN'S 2 (6) -- Jake Romine and winning pitcher Jim Kuebler combined on a six-inning one-hitter as the visiting Thunder improved to 16-3, 7-1 in Class 3A-District 10.

Jeremy Luna went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for ODA. Cooper Newlin and Desmond Lindsey each added two hits.

Softball

BRADEN RIVER 4, BAYSHORE 3 -- Kenya Yancy knocked in the tying run and scored the winning run as the host Pirates scored twice in the seventh inning handed the Bruins their second defeat of the season.

Lexi Phelps got the win, allowing one earned run and striking out three in seven innings. Yancy had three hits, and Myah Moy had a triple.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 3, SOUTHEAST 2 -- Sydney Ashley's double in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Becca Banks with the go-ahead run as the host Falcons (8-9) defeated the Seminoles.

Kirsten Samuels went the distance for Saint Stephen's, allowing an earned run and striking out seven. Kayla Hayes went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Falcons.
