Manatee Planning Commission OKs Terra Ceia development

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Planning Commission on Thursday OK'd a scaled-down plan for development on Terra Ceia Island, with several neighbors speaking in favor of the project.

The commission approved a revised preliminary site plan for the project, Tillett Bayou Preserve, calling for 15 single-family homes on 41.61 acres.

A previous proposal, which neighbors said they had opposed, called for 34 single-family homes on the property.

The site sits between Center Road and Bayshore Drive, with a strip of it between Bayshore Drive and Tillett Bayou.

Neighbors said they supported the modified proposal because it retained the "Old Florida" feel of the area, which is along Terra Ceia Bay north of Palmetto.
