Local roundup | State College of Florida baseball team snaps out of funk

Dustin Hagy went eight innings, allowing just one run, and the State College of Florida baseball team made the most of its five hits to earn a 3-1 victory Wednesday at St. Petersburg College.

The victory snapped a three-game Suncoast Conference losing streak for the Manatees (23-13, 9-10).

Hagy allowed three hits and struck out four. Scott Williams pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Williams and Manatee High product Danny Lee had a hit and an RBI apiece. Cory Reid and Manatee's Chase Sandberg had a hit and a run.

Prep baseball

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 15, IMAGINE SCHOOL OF NORTH PORT 0 (5) -- The Thunder clinched the top seed in the Class 3A-District 10 tournament with a run-rule victory over the Sharks.

Max Munroe, Cooper Newlin and Duncan Cappar combined on a two-hitter for ODA (15-3, 6-1). Newlin, who went 2-for-4 at the plate, was awarded the victory.

Jake Romine was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Trenton Radigan tripled and had an RBI.

INSPIRATION ACADEMY 13-13, LONDON SCHOOL OF ENGLAND 3-4 -- Joey Ambrosini went 4-for-4 in the first game, and Garett Schultz did the same in the second game as the host Lions (18-4) swept a team from England in a pair of five-inning games.

Payton Jenkins pitched the opener and got the win, striking out eight and allowing a run and three hits in four innings. Ambrosini tripled, homered and drove in five runs. Jenkins added two hits and two RBIs, and Jacob Heiser and Chris Guavreau each had two hits.

In the second game, Matt Ambrosini picked up the pitching victory, allowing two earned runs and five hits in three innings. Schultz added two RBIs to his four hits.

Girls tennis

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 5, FORT MYERS CANTERBURY 2 -- The Thunder's top four singles players -- Maria Ross, Mary Ann Rompf, Sydney Sforzo and Megan Jones -- claimed victories as visiting ODA earned a rematch with Saint Stephen's in a Class 1A-Region 5 semifinal.

Ross and Rompf combined for a victory at No. 1 doubles for the Thunder, who will visit the Falcons in the region final at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Boys lacrosse

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 12, FORT MYERS CANTERBURY 5 -- Jeremy Herrin led the way with six goals as the visiting Thunder earned a victory.

Christian Nold added four goals, and Aiden Dowdy made 18 saves.
