The Victory Belles are coming to Bradenton for two shows this weekend.

The vocal trio offers faithful re-creations of the exuberant and distinctive music of the 1940s.

The Belles are based at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, and a lot of their songs are patriotic tunes of the era.

They specialize in Andrews Sisters songs, and their show will feature such hits as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "I'll Be Seeing You," all sung in rich three-part harmony.

Their patriotic and military-themed numbers include "America the Beautiful," "Service Salute" and "GI Jive."

They'll be at McKechnie Field on Saturday and at the Manatee Performing Arts Center on Sunday.

The Belles' performance at McKechne Field is part of "Stories of Valor," a USO-style show. It's directed by Rick Kirby, the producing artistic director of the Manatee Performing Arts Center.

"Stories of Valor" is an upbeat, family-friendly, multi-media event that includes, besides the Victory Belles, a showcase of local musicians who are veterans. Jesse Yawn, a local blues man who played at the Bradenton Blues Festival last year, is one of the opening acts. It also features and musical and theatrical performances that take audiences through time with photos and films, and interviews with veterans. Ticket proceeds benefit Manasota Operation Troop Support.

If you're going to the McKechnie show you're asked to bring items to send U.S. troops, including beef jerky, protein bars and socks.
