Los Angeles, CA ( - Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday and is expected to miss at least 4-to-6 weeks.

Ellis was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Sunday, a day after he suffered the injury while rounding third base in a game against the Giants.

The procedure Tuesday cleaned up the medial meniscus in his knee. He will begin his rehabilitation on Wednesday.

In seven games this season, Ellis is hitting just .167. The Dodgers recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque.
