Car hits kindergarten student at Palmetto bus stop

PALMETTO -- A kindergarten student was struck by a car while waiting for a school bus Monday morning in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County School District.

The injuries did not appear to be serious, according to the district.

Between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m., the student was waiting for a bus near the corner of 11th Street West and Fourth Avenue West in Palmetto when the child ran into the street in front of the car, according to a school district news release.

"According to information given to Manatee District Transportation Department officials, the driver was not cited in the accident," the release states.

Police and paramedics responded to the scene but did not take the child to a hospital. The child's mother witnessed the accident.

"According to district transportation officials, the student's mother stated she was going to take the child to a medical facility to be examined," the release states.

The student attends Stewart Elementary School in Bradenton.
