Neighborhood watch cat takes up where Ginger, the Jack Russell Terrier, left off

Meet the cat across the street, Zuzia. Though she's had her eyes on me for some time now, we've only just been formally introduced. After the recent passing of Ginger, a rapscallion Jack Russell terrier who lived next door, Zuzia the cat has taken up the role of neighborhood sentinel. I've always considered myself a dog person, but truth be told, it took six years to befriend Ginger. And if I had a dollar bill for every time I've been startled by that wily terrier, I could replace all the coffee I've spilled on myself on the way to the car. But despite all that, she was a fantastic watch dog and a real sweetheart. Yeah, I called her "killer," every now and then, but I still slipped her the occasional biscuit and scratched her scruffy little ears. And just when the two of us had finally come to terms, when entering or exiting my own home no longer prompted a neighborhood alert, Ginger was gone. The cat is now all that remains of the neighborhood watch, and is apparently very serious about her duties. Think cats aren't tough enough to scare away burglars or predators? Google "cat fends off bear," and let me know what you think. Now if only she could bark. It's been too quiet out there!
