Fire station to host free open house

BRADENTON -- Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue will host a free, family-friendly open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will include free food and drinks and an inflatable fire safety house and junior combat challenge for children. There will also be demonstrations, including a live fire burn, extrication (jaws of life), and the Bayflite trauma helicopter.

The Cedar Hammock fire station is at 5200 26th St. W., Bradenton.

Palmetto Historical Park to host free family fun event

PALMETTO -- Palmetto Historical Park and the Manatee County Agricultural Museum will host a free, family fun event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, after the DeSoto Heritage Festival's Children's Parade.

Parents and kids are invited to explore the historical buildings and participate in hands-on activities, crafts, face paining, board games, a movie and more.

The park is at 515 10th Ave. W., Palmetto, right at the end of the parade route.

World Tai Chi & Qi Gong Day to be celebrated April 26

BRADENTON -- Special events are planned to celebrate World Tai Chi & Qi Gong Day on Saturday, April 26, in Bradenton as part of an international observance.

The event, which will include teach-ins and exhibitions, begins at 10 a.m. in the courtyard of Westminster Presbyterian Church, at 30th Street West and 19th Avenue West.

Local teachers and practitioners will be giving demonstrations and teaching people about the health benefits of these martial arts.
