Mets' Niese comes off DL

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Mets have activated pitcher Jonathan Niese from the 15-day disabled list, with the left-hander slated to start Sunday's finale of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds.

Niese had his season debut pushed back after being shut down for part of spring training by discomfort in his throwing elbow, but threw 80 pitches in a minor league game on Tuesday without any setbacks.

The 27-year-old compiled an 8-8 record with a 3.71 earned run average over 24 starts last season, though he missed nearly two months due to a partially torn rotator cuff that did not require surgery.
