Tea Party/Republicans favor rich over struggling citizens

April 5, 2014

Public opinion polls show that the economy is what most concerns people.

Despite much faux populist rhetoric to the contrary, the Tea Party/Republicans favor socialism for the rich, including such government largess as offshore tax havens, low capital gains tax rates and subsidies to the big oil and gas companies.

This further enables the rich to get richer while the poor get poorer and has been a disaster for the American people.

In addition, the Tea Party/Republican policy of cutting back or eliminating vital social safety net programs which protect working people, the poor and disabled -- such as unemployment insurance, food stamps and Medicaid -- is a disgrace. What family values!

Programs offered by President Obama that can reverse this onslaught, such as his proposal to raise the federal minimum wage, are dead on arrival in the Tea Party/Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives.

It is time to put people and nature (protecting our planet) before corporate profits. The Better Off Budget prepared by the Congressional Progressive Caucus does just that. It puts people back to work, takes away harmful cuts, reduces the deficit and prioritizes jobs.

Voting the Tea Party/Republicans out of office is a necessary first step to solving our nation's economic problems.
