LAKEWOOD RANCH -- A vehicle crash on Lakewood Ranch Blvd on Friday morning sent two bicyclists to a local hospital.
The accident happened at the intersection with Summerfield Parkway.
"It was a vehicle versus pedestrian," said Lt. Greg Bueno of the Florida Highway Patrol on Friday afternoon. "We received a call at 10:24 a.m. and we were on the scene at 10:55 a.m."
According to a press release, the accident involved two vehicles.
"Vehicle 1 was southbound on Lakewood Ranch in the left lane approaching a red traffic signal at Parkside Place (Summerfield Parkway). Vehicle 2 was westbound on Summerfield Parkway turning left onto Lakewood Ranch Boulevard to travel southbound," read part of the news release.
According to the FHP, the two bicyclists were traveling eastbound on Summerfield Parkway, entering the intersection to turn left onto Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. It was then that 22-year-old Lindsay Damery of Bradenton, whose 2004 Chevy was described as Vehicle 1, reportedly failed to stop for the red traffic signal and continued southbound into the intersection.
"The front of Vehicle 1 collided with the front left of Pedestrian 1's bicycle and the left side of Pedestrian 1," the news release states.
The first bicylist then collided with the second bicylist and, according to FHP, the right front of Damery's Chevy collided with the left rear of the second vehicle. According to the release, Damery is charged with running a red light.
Earlier Friday afternoon, Bueno was also unable to state what kind of injuries the victim sustained as a result of the crash, but noted that troopers were still at the hospital. Both victims were sent to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
"It's all under investigation at this point," he said.
