Pirates pullpast Tigersin 7A-10 play
Lexi Phelps went the distance on the mound, surrendering five hits and a run, and Sarah Crawford had three hits as the Braden River softball team collected a 10-1 victory over host Palmetto on Thursday in Class 7A-District 10 play.
Kenya Yancy and Bethany Keen each went 2-for-5, and Crawford and Yancy each drove in two runs for the Pirates (6-2 district).
SOUTHEAST 6, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 0 -- Megan Stevens fired a two-hit shutout as the host Seminoles improved to 8-7, 4-4 in Class 5A-District 10.
Stevens struck out six and walked one. She also had two hits and an RBI at the plate.
Jurnee Bennett and Susan Jibson also had two hits for Southeast.
BOOKER 8, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2 -- Sam Proctor limited the visiting Panthers (13-7) to three hits over six innings, striking out eight, as the Tornadoes got the win.
Luke Darnell had two of BCS' three hits.
PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 5, MANATEE 3 -- Shane Rocklein led the way with two hits in a losing effort for the visiting Hurricanes (9-10).
SAINT STEPHEN'S 11, IMAGINE SCHOOL OF NORTH PORT 3 -- Chase Myer hit the Falcons' first home run at their new Moore Athletic Complex field as Saint Stephen's (9-10) got past the Sharks.
Justin Gregorius got the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs and five hits, while striking out five, in 4 1/3 innings. Caleb Eyre picked up his first varsity save with 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Myer had two hits and drove in two runs. Jake Westberry added two hits and three RBIs.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 12, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 4 -- Clarke Phillips went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the host Thunder (13-3) by the Blazers (7-8).
Desmond Lindsey went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, and Jim Keubler allowed two hits and three earned runs in six innings. He struck out six.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 15, SAINT STEPHEN'S 7 -- Kimmy Comito knocked in six goals and had three assists as the host Thunder avenged an earlier loss to the Falcons.
Tess Siciliano added four goals, and Lexi Meyers had three for ODA. Abby Bannar made five saves.
For Saint Stephen's (4-3, 4-1 District 16), Baylee Barker had four goals, and Emily Hiebner contributed two. Kelsey Leskinen made 11 saves in goal.
