ST. ARMANDS -- Manatee County shoppers looking for the Tervis tumbler experience won't have to drive to Osprey anymore.

An official Tervis factory store is expected to open its 31st Tervis company store on May 20 at 319 John Ringling Blvd., St. Armands Key, just minutes from Longboat Key.

Lynn Kisser, Tervis vice president of stores, said the opening is exciting for the company, allowing it to introduce its iconic cups and accessories to more folks at the tourist friendly St. Armands Circle.

"Visitors may be introduced to the Tervis brand for the first time. And everyone who goes in will experience our fresh, fun, new look while seeing a great selection of our American-made insulated drinkware products," Kisser said. "Hopefully, it will entice them to take a short drive to Osprey and visit our iconic heritage store."

While Tervis products are sold throughout the nation and in retailers like Bealls and Bed Bath & Beyond, the factory stores focus on exclusive products and tend to offer more specials on Tervis products.

The tumblers are known for their dual layer design that helps insulate drinks to keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot and also has licensing deals with pro sports teams and colleges, Star Wars, Disney, Hallmark as well as offering people the chance to design their own Tervis

Tervis products are made at its Venice factory, right off of Interstate 75, where work has begun on a new 23,200-square-foot building as part of the company's expansion.

The original Tervis store is located at 928 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey.

"The Osprey store was the original factory location and has been there since the late '50s," Kisser said. "It has a large enough space to showcase the thousands of designs available."

Tervis is also in the midst of a sweepstakes for tickets to the NFL Draft in New York, providing airfare and hotel stay for two and $500 cash. The promotion is in conjunction with Summit Entertainment's upcoming movie "Draft Day" starring Kevin Costner. The movie, set to be released April 11, follows Costner as Sonny Weaver Jr., trying to rebuild the Cleveland Browns as general manager, as he trades for the first overall pick.
