Pro-development legislation sticks to bad Florida tradition

April 4, 2014

When we were in a dispute with a construction company several years ago, our lawyer cautioned us: "You have to appreciate that Florida laws are written by the real estate and banking interests."

Our highly regarded state senator is adhering to that tradition with his pro-developer bill that promises to bypass state oversight of important developments in "large" (that includes Manatee and Sarasota) counties.

I hope that every reader saw Joe Shea's April 1 letter. April Fool's day is alive and well in Tallahassee.
