The River Strand Golf & Country Club Ladies Golf League raised $10,635 for The Food Bank of Manatee during their "Play with a Pro" event. Men also participated, contributing $1,300 to play a round with internationally recognized golfer, Domenico Geminiani. ICON Management, which oversees the common areas in River Strand, supported the event with its own $1,000 donation for The Food Bank. League members Ellen Kibbe and Lynne Swindler organized the first "Play with a Pro" event in 2013, and exceeded their goals this year. Annual Family Fun Walk and Fun Festival: Help raise awareness and funds for homeless children and participate in Turning Points' "Walk A Mile In Their Shoes," a one mile beach walk 5:30 p.m. April 5 at Coquina Beach, Bradenton, followed by fun activities for families including an exciting sand castle competition, bounce house, face painting, great food and music. Selby Gardens' 2014 Orchid Ball "Birds in Paradise" will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 8 p.m. April 5. Dollars4 GuideDogs Launch Party: The public is invited to an official Launch Party 5:30-8 p.m. April 10 at the Sandbar Pavilion, 100 Spring Ave., Anna Maria featuring Southeastern Guide Dogs puppies, a cash bar and refreshments. The Southeastern Guide Dogs and the Chiles Restaurant group will kick off a partnership designed to generate funds for Southeastern Guide Dogs' services to the visually impaired community. The Chiles Restaurant Group, consisting of the Mar Vista Dockside on Longboat Key, the BeachHouse in Bradenton and the Sandbar on Anna Maria Island, will offer their patrons a convenient opportunity to donate to Southeastern Guide Dogs at the point of sale through the Dollars4GuideDogs program. Sarasota Orthopedic Associates will sponsor the Run For The Music 5K race beginning with registration at 7 a.m. followed by the 5K race, a Kids Dash, a 1-mile Fun Run and a Doggie 5K May 10. The chip timed race will follow a 5K course around the high school and county park. There are run categories for all ages and an after party and award presentation for all races.
