A motorcyclist was hospitalized Wednesday after a Cadillac turned into his path, witnesses say.

MANATEE -- A motorcyclist apparently survived an accident after a car turned into his path around 7 p.m. Wednesday in Manatee County.

The motorcyclist was eastbound on Cortez Road approaching 75th Street West, according to witnesses. A westbound car turned onto 75th Street into the path of the motorcyclist causing the collision, witnesses said.

Julie Linderleaf was on the way to the beach with her husband when they saw the accident.

"She was making a left-hand turn," she said. "According to her, she said the sun was in her eye. But she turned anyway." The couple said they were happily surprised to see the motorcycle driver moving as they called 911.

Many other witnesses stood by as emergency medical services and Manatee County deputies quickly arrived. Deputies helped to direct traffic as the Cadillac CTS and motorcycle remained in the intersection. At about 7:15 p.m. the motorcycle driver was rushed to a local hospital.

Deputies took statements from witnesses and the elderly woman driver. Police reports are not as yet available on the incident. The identities of the drivers in the accident are not yet available.
