Nine Gateway Bank employees were awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award created in 2003 by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to encourage more people to serve their communities.
The award is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service. Award eligibility is based on hour requirements varying by age. A record of annual volunteer service hours is submitted, and the number of hours logged determines the award level (gold, silver or bronze). Michael Feduccia, vice president and financial adviser, and president of Manasota BUDS, earned a silver award for 233 hours of community service in 2013. Jamie Jones, assistant vice president and credit analyst/portfolio manager, received a bronze medal for 100 service hours partly for her volunteer hours with Suncoast Community Capital's "Build-A-Business" program. Susie Kruse, vice president and banking center manager, logged 147 hours, earning a bronze award. Kruse serves as board member/treasurer for Anna Maria Island Kiwanis. She has recently become involved with the activity and fundraising committee for Women's Council of Realtors -- Manatee Chapter, as well as the program committee for Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance.
Patti Prince, officer and assistant banking center manager, was awarded bronze recognition for 125 service hours. Prince is troop leader of Bradenton's Girl Scout Troop No. 37. Prince is planning to chaperone the troop on a trip to Europe this summer. Cherie Mooney, senior vice president and human resources director, logged 102 hours for the bronze award as board member and treasurer of the local chapter of Society for Human Resources. Mooney is also the employer coordinator for Gateway's involvement in the United Way Suncoast. Deborah Vaughan, vice president and banking center manager, received the bronze award for 148 service hours. She served as 2013 Gala Chair for Cat Depot, an event that netted more than $85,000 for the nonprofit organization. Vaughan is again serving as Gala Chair for 2014. ison is a long-time volunteer for Just for Girls Inc. Foundation, and serves on its board as secretary. She is also a board member for the United Way of Manatee County. Dennis Murphy, senior vice president and senior loan officer, who logged 120 hours, earned the bronze award. Murphy serves as board member/treasurer for First Tee of Sarasota/Manatee. He is on the Sarasota Tomorrow Oversight Council as well as the Finance Committee for Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce.
Shaun P. Merriman, president and CEO, earned a silver award for 268 service hours in 2013. Merriman serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. In addition, he is trustee board member of the Kennedy Center's Any Given Child -- Sarasota County schools, and board member of the Van Wezel Foundation. Gateway Bank as an organization has received the Gold award for the past five years.
Laura McKeithen has joined Renaissance on 9th as catering sales director. McKeithen is responsible for business development of catering and event rental at Renaissance on 9th. McKeithen is a fifth generation Floridian and has been active in the Bradenton's nonprofit and business community for more than 30 years. She has extensive experience in catering and special events, as well as management skills acquired through her time as a local small business owner. Previously the Event and Creative Services Manager for Realize Bradenton, McKeithen made numerous contributions to help enliven downtown Bradenton.
William W. Merrill III, a senior shareholder at Icard Merrill, has been elected president of The Argus Foundation for 2014. A board member of the group for five years, Merrill served as vice president the previous year and replaces outgoing president R.G. Kelly Caldwell Jr. Joining the organization as new board members for 2014 are: Charles G. Brown III, chairman of the board/CEO of Insignia Bank; F. John LaCivita, vice president of Willis A. Smith Construction; and Keith A. Mercier, partner/regional vice president of Bouchard Insurance.
Laura Peaslee has joined Kerkering, Barberio & Co., Certified Public Accountants as an audit supervisor. She received her bachelor's degree in accounting from Millikin University, and she is a Florida and Georgia certified public accountant.
Nicole Franklin, audit manager, and Kinga Huse, tax supervisor, for CS&L CPAs have been nominated as "Emerging Leaders" for the 2014 Florida Institute of CPAs "Women to Watch" Awards. The Emerging Leaders award recognizes women who have made significant contributions to the profession and the community, while still ascending to the highest levels of advancement. Award winners will be announced at the 2014 Women's Leadership Summit in Orlando in June.
James T. Cannon, DMD. has joined North River Dental. Cannon received his doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Florida. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association and the West Coast Florida Dental Association.
