Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will start the 2014 season on the 15-day disabled list, as the club pared its roster to 25 for the start of the campaign.

Machado is still recovering from left knee surgery performed last September. The DL move is retroactive to March 21, meaning he could be activated by next weekend.

The Orioles also placed infielder Michael Almanzar and outfielders Nolan Reimold and Francisco Peguero on the 15-day disabled list, while pitcher Edgmer Escalano will start on the 60-day DL because of a right shoulder impingement.

Outfielder Delmon Young made the team and had his minor league contract purchased, as did pitcher Evan Meek.

The Orioles designated pitcher Mike Belfiore for assignment and assigned pitcher Johan Santana to minor league camp as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.
