Gov. Scott names two locals to boards
TALLAHASSEE -- Two Bradenton residents have been appointed to state commissions by Gov. Rick Scott.
Julie Galvano, 48, was appointed to the Florida Commission on Community Service, the governor's office announced Friday.
Galvano, the director of business development for Blake Medical Center and the wife of State Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, will serve a term that began Friday and ends Sept. 14, 2016.
Paul Wagner, 49, was appointed to the Commission for Independent Education.
Wagner is the director of adult, career and technical education for the Manatee County School District. His term also began Friday and ends June 30, 2016.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
SCF to host juried student art exhibit April 11-23
BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, will host its annual juried SCF Student Art Exhibition April 11-23.
An opening reception will be held 6-8 p.m. in the Fine Art Gallery at the school's Bradenton campus, 5840 26th St. W. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
The exhibit will display student artwork including the Best in Show, SCF President's Award, Keeton's Honorable Mention Awards and first place in the following categories: photography, graphic design, two-dimensional design and three-dimensional design. Cash prizes will be awarded.
The juror for the exhibition will be Richard Herzog, assistant professor of sculpture at New College of Florida.
Artwork will be available for viewing 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
