HOLMES BEACH — A report of a suspicious backpack turned out to be a false alarm, authorities said Friday.

The Holmes Beach Police Department called in the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for assistance after a citizen reported seeing a suspicious backpack under a bench at 31st Street and Avenue E in Holmes Beach sometime around 7:30 p.m., according to a sheriff’s report.

The black backpack appeared to have some unknown liquid leaking out onto the sidewalk, the report states.

The area was secured, and a bomb technician later found the backpack only contained an empty vodka bottle and plastic cups.
