IMG defends title at own tournament

Boston College signee Brian Rapp got the win on the mound, and Virginia signee Ryan Karstetter claimed MVP honors as the IMG Academy baseball team defended its championship in the IMG National Classic with a 6-1 victory over Niceville.

Rapp pitched six scoreless innings before Niceville clawed out a run in the seventh inning. Karstetter, a third baseman and pitcher, finished the tournament 7-for-14 with eight RBIs.

IMG also defeated Tavares 6-0, Georgetown Prep (Md.) 10-0 and Palm Coast Matanzas 15-4.

Juco baseball

SOUTH FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE 3, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 0 -- Reggie McClain took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the host Panthers reached him for three unearned runs to pull out a Suncoast Conference victory.

McClain allowed two hits and a walk in eight innings. He struck out four.

The Manatees (20-12, 7-7), got two hits from Scott Williams. SCF managed just four hits.

Prep baseball

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN  12, SOUTHEAST 6 -- Hunter McGarry went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the host Panthers to their ninth win in 10 games.

BCS (13-5) trailed 4-0 in the first inning before Luke Darnell took the mound in relief. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and a run, while striking out four, to get the win.

Cameron Rogers went 2-for-3 for the Panthers.

The Seminoles got two hits apiece from Kareen Lewis and Alex Quinones.
