Panthers' Gilbert has season-ending surgery

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Florida Panthers announced Thursday that defenseman Tom Gilbert had surgery to repair a sports hernia and will miss the remainder of the season.

Gilbert, 31, totaled three goals and 25 assists in 73 games during his first season with the franchise.

He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp in September.
