Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo has signed his franchise tender.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but it's believed to be worth $11.45 million for the 2014 season. The sides can continue to work toward a long-term deal.

Orakpo earned his third Pro Bowl selection after leading the team with 10 sacks last season. He also amassed 70 tackles and recorded his first career interception while starting 15 games. He missed only the season finale with a groin injury.

In 2012, Orakpo suffered a torn pectoral muscle in a Week 2 loss at St. Louis and missed the remainder of the season.

The 27-year-old Texas product has compiled 283 tackles and 39 1/2 sacks in 64 career games with the Redskins, who selected him with the 13th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
