Local roundup | State College of Florida baseball team rips way to 12-2 victory

Scott Williams went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in six runs to lead the host State College of Florida Baseball team to a 12-2 rout of South Florida Community College in a game shortened to eight innings by the 10-run rule at Robert C. Wynn Field.

SCF's Cory Reid went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, and Justin Garcia (2-for-4) drove in the winning tally with a sacrifice fly.

Devon Carr pitched six innings, striking out two and allowing two runs on seven hits for the victory.

Tyler Souris picked up the save, fanning two and allowing no hits in two innings for SCF (20-11).

Prep baseball

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 12, BRADEN RIVER 2 (5) -- Austin Hoppe threw a five-inning two-hitter, striking out seven, as the host Thunder (9-3) earned their sixth straight victory by run-ruling the Pirates.

Hoppe and Desmond Lindsey each had two hits and three RBIs for ODA (9-3). Carson Jungers, Jimmy Kuebler and Jake Romine added two hits apiece.

INSPIRATION ACADEMY 6, NEW PORT RICHEY RIVER RIDGE 0 -- Payton Jenkins threw a three-hit shutout as the Lions opened their play in the Dunedin Baseball Classic with a victory.

Jenkins struck out six and walked five. He took a no-hitter into the sixth. Currie Guavreau had two hits and two RBIs, and Jacob Heiser added a two-run double.

Inspiration Academy advances to the semifinals on Thursday against an undetermined opponent.

Boys tennis

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 4, CARDINAL MOONEY 3 -- Marcus Buffet, Jose Juncosa and Matt Jones won singles matches in straight sets for the Thunder in a victory over the Cougars.

Janum Trevedi and Buffet claimed a doubles victory for the winning margin.
