4-year-old found on side of busy Palmetto road

MANATEE -- Investigators are looking into a case of possible child neglect after a 4-year-old was found unsupervised on the side of a busy road in Palmetto on Tuesday morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The child was spotted in the 400 block of 49th Street East in Palmetto at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by a woman, according to a news release.

The woman was concerned that the child, who was near passing traffic, was in danger. After rushing to grab the child, she waited about 30 minutes before calling 911 to report the missing child.

Deputies arrived and took the woman and child to the area of the 4700 block of Fourth Avenue East in Palmetto. The parents were found searching the area and were reunited with the child, the release stated.

Due to two recent cases of child neglect, a child neglect investigation was begun, according to the release. The Crimes Against Children task force was contacted and responded with Child Protective Services.
