ANNA MARIA — A crash on the Anna Maria Island bridge this afternoon shut down the causeway for more than an hour Monday.

“It’s a vehicle versus a guard rail,” a dispatcher for the Florida Highway Patrol said.

“They’re basically trying to secure the vehicle so that it doesn’t go over the side,” said Lt. Greg Bueno, FHP spokesman. “It sounds like that’s in the works."

FHPl diverted westbound traffic toward the causeway starting at at 75th Street West.

“They are diverting traffic temporarily to secure the vehicle,” Bueno said.

An accident along the eastbound lanes of Manatee Avenue shut down eastbound traffic from 59th Street West, according to a tweet from the Bradenton Police Department. Traffic was shut down for about 15 minutes before the road reopened.

“There are no injuries,” said Bueno.
