Sheriff to talk marijuana, crime

BRADENTON -- The East Manatee Republican Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Peridia Golf and Country Club, 4950 Peridia Blvd., Bradenton.

Lunch costs $16.

Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube will discuss the decrease in crime and critique the marijuana amendment on the November ballot.

Lifelong Learning Academy presents futurist Houle

MANATEE -- David Houle, award-winning futurist and strategist who writes the blog "Evolution Shift," will discuss trends, global topics and his recent book, "Entering the Shift Age," at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Houle was part of the senior executive team that launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News.

A pre-lecture book signing is 4-5 p.m. The lecture is followed by a post-lecture book signing from 6:30-7 p.m.
